Right
beside the Colosseum is the Roman Forum. This was the political,
religious, legal, and administrative center of ancient city
of Rome. The Roman Forum was just recently excavated (within
the last century). Before that, it was covered by fields and
other structures. There are still a lot of areas covered by
modern roads and buildings, but they cannot be removed because
the city would not be able to accommodate the large amount
of people visiting or living in Rome otherwise.
